Ficaghja


Located on a ridge at 570m, this perched village offers lovely views on the Mount San Petrone and the corrie of Ampugnani. On the other side of the Pozzu Biancu river we can see the village of A Porta. Ficaghja counts several religious edifices, and a built heritage typical of Castagniccia, with stone houses, vaulted «loghje» passages and numerous fountains.

To discover
- The church of Immaculée Conception, datind from the endly-17th century, and its remarkable Holy Sepulcher, perhaps one of the most sophisticated of the island.
- Chapels of San Roccu, Santa Maria Assunta in the hamlet of Benefiziu, and Annunziata in Ezau. All of them contains several listed works of art.
- Four old working stone mills «e macine», now used as tables.
- The «Savione» giant chestnut tree, which is 500 years old and has a 10m-trunk circumference.
